When we read the story of Peter, we see the results of how we can apply our faith while keeping our eyes on Jesus….that we can walk on water. But what we often don’t think about in this story is what is underneath the water. Under water, are many things that could have harmed or killed Peter.  Such as not being able to breathe underwater or being attacked by aggressive occupants of the sea, etc.  But instead of being concerned about what could harm you under water, know that you were called to walk above the things that may try to harm you, hinder you, or hold you back.

Matthew 14:25-32

25And in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went unto them, walking on the sea.

26And when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, It is a spirit; and they cried out for fear.

27But straightway Jesus spake unto them, saying, Be of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid.

28And Peter answered him and said, Lord, if it be thou, bid me come unto thee on the water.

29And he said, Come. And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus.

30But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me.

31And immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand, and caught him, and said unto him, O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt?

32And when they were come into the ship, the wind ceased.

In life, we must remember that if we apply our faith, we are called to walk above the water without fear of what is under you. Your problems are beneath you….things that hinder you, are beneath you…people who stand in your way, are beneath you when you faithfully walk on water with Jesus.

So next time something comes your way, just say “Sorry, but that’s beneath me.”

Brother Kelvin
