Here is an interesting note.   The antonym of withstand is ‘surrender’.  Let’s take a look at that word.
1: acceptance of despair
2: a verbal act of admitting defeat
3: the delivery of a principal into lawful custody
4: the act of surrendering (under agreed conditions);
verb
1: give up or agree to forego to the power or possession of another; [syn: give up] [ant: resist]
2: relinquish possession or control over;
3: relinquish to the power of another; yield to the control of another
So look at all the things we do when you do not withstand.  When we don’t withstand, we give up power, and possession; and have agreed to admit defeat, deliver ourselves into custody (or bondage), and we agree to these conditions.  So keeping this in mind, when we are attacked by something someone said/did, or by a situation we are going through, is it worth it to not withstand?  There is too much lost in not taking a stand.  The more we do not stand, we create a defeated mentality so that when we are attacked, we give up without a fight.  We loose our self-image, our self-esteem, and our identity.  We forget that we are more than conquerors and a royal priesthood; heirs to the kingdom of God.  The devil can toss us to and fro using people and situations, and God will allow it to happen in order to see at what point will you stand so that He can get the glory out of your life!
