Again; same boat, same sea, same storm, different experiences. The experience differed based on where they were with God. Jesus knew where He was with God, so He rested. The disciples had not yet understood what Jesus was trying to teach them about faith, so they were in a panic. Think about it, when He talked about moving the mountain, the sicamine tree being plucked up and cast into the tree, and even when the fig tree withered; as they marvelled at Christ He wanted them to understand that through faith they could do the same thing. So then we find them in a situation where through faith, they could have rested as well. So why did not they rest? Because they missed the key points. First, it’s what we just discussed, that they could exhibit the same power that Christ exhibited through faith. But think about it…verse 37 says the boat was “full”. Hmmm….last I checked, a boat full of water would sink? So they are on a boat, full of water that is not sinking and was missing a miracle in action. Why did not the boat sink?
The answer to that question is the next point they missed. In verse 35, Christ said that they would go to the other side. Let’s see, when God speaks what happens?
Genesis 1:3 “And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.”
John 5:8-9 “Jesus saith unto him, Rise, take up thy bed, and walk. And immediately the man was made whole, and took up his bed, and walked: and on the same day was the sabbath. ”
John 11:43-44 “And when he thus had spoken, he cried with a loud voice, Lazarus, come forth. And he that was dead came forth, bound hand and foot with graveclothes: and his face was bound about with a napkin. Jesus saith unto them, Loose him, and let him go.”
So when Jesus said let us go to the other side, there was nothing in existence that would stop the word of Jesus from being void. So no matter how hard the winds blow, how great the waves were, how full the boat was, nothing was going to stop them from reaching the other side.
